So, ladies and gentlemen, we are very close to our Grand Reopening! We'll have all sorts of great new stuff in stock, old stuff that you maybe didn't know we had, and some great new used records as well!

Public Image Limited - "Album"
AND THERE IS WAY MORE THAN THAT! Especially in "new used" which has had a serious injection of amazing records! Some of this stuff, whether it's 4AD stuff, or TVT/Wax Traxx albums, or a grip of singles I'm surprised to see (Cocteau Twins, Depeche Mode, The Cure etc) that are just ripe for the picking!
WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A TON OF NEW RECORDS FOR OUR GRAND REOPENING! I got to sit down yesterday and take a peek at what we will be ordering and it is quite impressive I have to say. And the new audio equipment is spectacular and has to be seen to be believed (I have to say my favorite thing within my immediate price range is our USB Turntable which is one of the best bangs for your buck that you could get; it comes with Audacity so you can record and split your tracks, it comes with a cartridge so you don't have to go out and buy a needle, and then the sound quality from the relatively inexpensive turntable is amazing).
Here's a topic of some interest... we've been bringing in some more dubstep records as of late... and some have been selling well (James Blake, Burial, etc) but I'm wondering if the good people of South Western Michigan would be interested in something like Various Production? Here's a little taste of something they just put on their Soundcloud :)
Various - Air (feat Asher Dust) by Various
Is this your speed? Are you into more melodic "post-dubstep" sounds? Or would you be interested in artists like Kode 9? For those of you who aren't familiar dubstep is a mutation of 2 step garage and grime basically. Earlier releases from artists like Horsepower Productions featured more typical "dub" sounds where more recent albums from other artists have focused on heavy "wobble" (extremely heavy modulated sub-bass). It has splintered into many different sounds although artists like Skillex seem to be known best for people new to the genre. Various Production were one of the first groups to push it to the forefront with their Portishead like debut The World Is Gone (a vinyl single of the title track featured Cat Power on vocals).
Here is a little taste of a single from The World Is Gone (released on XL):
Another topic of interest touches on something from about a month ago...
Many of you are already aware that Jay-Z and Kanye West released an album recently called Watch The Throne... the problem for us "brick and mortar" stores (i.e. stores that actually exist physically as opposed to on the internet) is that a deal was struck so that Watch The Throne was ONLY available from iTunes and Best Buy for about 2 weeks. 1,400 independent record stores signed a petition to express their irritation about keeping stores (like ours) out of the loop.
Now, let's try to address this a few different ways: a) If you don't care for OR know either artists back catalog very well then why don't you let us know if you think we should carry (or not carry) the record just based on principal, b) If you do know their previous work, let us know what you think of us carrying this based on your interest AND your opinion of this little news byte, and c) if you've actually heard the album let us know what you think of it AND if we should pick it up (if it gets vinyl release). PLEASE LEAVE YOUR COMMENTS BELOW! We really want to hear what you think about this and other topics we'll be getting to soon :)
Personally? I don't think it was very cool for indie stores to get iced out? But then again a super huge mainstream release like that isn't exactly (usually) indie store fodder... I mean they aren't thinking about this album the way the people at Matador think about indie stores lol. I personally took a minute to warm up to the album but now I think it's wonderful. Why? Well it's due in part to it's very "hopster" nature as a record (that's a goofy little internet term that combines "hipster" and "hip-hop"). They sample dubsteppers Flux Pavillion and French House maestros Cassius on the album, and they essentially made an album that has the typical mainstream rap fodder (money, being awesome, girls) and then some "backpack" hip-hop staples (struggles in the Black community, community in general, and life without all the crazy fame involved).
Here is the most recent single "Otis"... in the video they destroy a Maibach Benz and turn it into a race car... because that's the type of thing you can do when you're famous :)
Lastly I thought I'd mention that The War On Drugs (whose Slave Ambient has been really popular at the store) are touring soon! This info just came out this morning so I thought you customers might be interested...
THE WAR ON DRUGS ADD DECEMBER NORTH AMERICAN DATES TO THEIR ENDLESS TOUR IN SUPPORT OF SLAVE AMBIENT
Including Bowery Ballroom in NYC, Union Transfer in Philly, Lincoln Hall in Chicago

The War On Drugs are on a roll! The first legs of their US and European tours in support of the widely raved about Slave Ambient (“Best New Music” on Pitchfork, “Best of 2011 So Far” on SPIN.com) have been exceptional, and they’ll be hitting the road again in October & November for another month of touring the United States. Things are going so well for these guys, they’ve decided to return to some of the towns they played in August and September to play larger venues. This includes return visits to Chicago, New York (adding a Bowery Ballroom show in addition to the Beacon Theater show with The National), Washington, D.C., Toronto, and Philadelphia, plus gigs in a few more cities they have not ventured to yet in support of the new album. A full list of dates is below.
"When the band's wide-screened psychedelic flourishes are fused with Granduciel's well-worn Dylan- and Petty-isms, songs like ‘Brothers’ and ‘It's Your Destiny’ wondrously conjure nothing so much as the Traveling Wilburys recording for mid-1980s 4AD." -- Pitchfork [Best New Music]
"bridges the considerable distance between Düsseldorf and Nashville." -- Village Voice
"a swath of nostalgia in a storm of mind-bending audio. This is boss-gaze, and—sorry, old dudes and purity chasers—it's stupendous." -- Under The Radar
"On a sleepy Sunday night in Minneapolis, The War On Drugs came into the Entry and confidently delivered one of the shows of the year. Now that is the way to end a weekend." -- Minneapolis City Pages' Gimme Noise
“You'll likely decide to play this all the way through again before it's even half over. It's that cohesive and melodically insistent.” -- SF Weekly’s All Shook Down
“Alternately downhome and astral, Adam Granduciel’s arrangements on this slice of dreamy rock are locomotive, tinged with wistfulness, and unfold and sprawl like a field gone green in spring.” -- Premier Guitar
"Classic rock reborn with added sizzle and drone." – Uncut
"A work of real wonder." – MOJO
"A record so accomplished that it already feels timeless . . . This is a near-flawless rock album, and certainly one of the best you'll hear all year." -- The Quietus

And here is a little taste of the album if you have yet to hear it!
Keep your eye on this spot as there should be a lot of output here during out grand reopening! We want to include customer reviews of albums that we're carrying so please get in contact say if you wanted to write about Slave Ambient or some of our Black Sabbath or Greatful Dead reissues. We look forward to seeing you at the store and can't wait to talk to you all!
P.s. My mate Frankmusik had his sophomore effort released YESTERDAY called
Do It In The AM. If you're into electronic dance pop, with a Blade Runner edge, you're all set. His first album is an ambitious album from a dude living at his grans after a bad break up... this 2nd album is more of an album directed towards creating a new blueprint for what a male solo electro-pop artist should be releasing in this day and age. Here is the 2nd single off the album of the same name, "Do It In The AM" featuring Far East Movement (of "Like A G6" fame).
If you are interested in getting a copy let us know because this would be a special order :) We could only get it in CD, not vinyl, otherwise we would already have it! If that video didn't convince you he's a cheeky fun loving fella check out this brief ad for the album (trust and believe this is NOT the one they showed during Glee... Tom reported that was just a quick shout out about "No I.D. feat Colette Carr" instead).
And last but not least... Here is a little trick we were told about recently... I HAVE TO SAY THAT I AM NOT SURE IF THIS WORKS OR NOT AND CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IF YOU DESTROY YOUR RECORD lol but it certainly seems like an interesting way to save a very dirty album from a lifetime of pops and hisses. Again, you're totally on your own here but I thought it might be of interest to some of you whose favorite albums may not be very listenable anymore.
